Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. The project will get pupils thinking about staying safe online and the possible threats they could face.
At Key Stage 3, pupils have one Computing lesson per week. By the end of the project, pupils will have a good understanding of staying safe online and will be able to suggest tips to avoid the threats.
They will demonstrate their understanding by producing an assessed podcast.
The final lesson will give pupils an opportunity to use a data entry screen in Microsoft Excel, which will be used to collect information on Internet usage.
This will act an introduction to Project B: Spreadsheet Modelling. This unit will take pupils through the basics of spreadsheets.
